We are seeing more and more monochrome interiors at the minute. Where ever you look, Instagram, Pinterest or Twitter, it seems to be every where. It could be I am noticing it more because I am drawn to it, and want it! When we moved into this house I wanted to keep my normal colour scheme of soft greys and whites throughout the house, but I feel its time for a change. I love the impact of the white and black, it looks modern and arty. Plus if you fancy a change of colours you can always add an accent colour further down the line.
Dominik has his heart set on a super hero bedroom, a Captain America bedroom to be specific. I do worry he will grow out of this phase and will want it changed to his next favourite character. So to keep him happy and my need for a monochrome room satisfied we have come up with this theme for his new bedroom.
We already have the IKEA Aneboda wardrobe and the Trofast storage system, he will just need some black storage boxes to go inside. The biggest expense will be a new bed, he currently has a hand-me-down bed from his sister. Some thing simple like Malm bedframe and a new mattress, which I can decorate with some vinyl batman stickers.
His bedroom is the smallest in the house, its just bigger than a box room. By using white furniture it will make it brighter and give the impression of being airy. Luckily he has a large window looking out of the front of the house, which he loves sitting in bed watching the cars go by. I have looked for curtains to match, but I think it will be easier to buy some fabric and make a roman blind, Spoonflower is a great place to find fabric, I love this batman print fabric. I may try and make my own printed fabric with a stencil and some fabric paint, if I do expect a tutorial on the blog soon.
For the flooring, he currently has a cream carpet, but with his dust mite allergy we will take it up and replace with something more suitable for him. I have always wanted to do a chequer board effect with carpet tiles, or depending on the quality of the flooring under his carpet we could lay some vinyl, I am loving this white and black patterned vinyl or even leave the bare floorboards and paint them white.
The last bit is the lighting, being such a small room with a high ceiling. Some thing like the Hektar pendant light from ikea to give overall lighting, and then some mood lighting. I’ve found these cotton ball fairy lights, which could just be hung on the wall and work as a nightlight too. From the same website I found this fab lightbox which you can add letters and icons to, making it more fun than a normal table lamp.
So these are my ideas for little mans new bedroom, follow me on Instagram to watch the progress. First job… start painting and get rid of these awful magnolia walls!
