In the UK, it’s not common to have a big garden. In fact, you’re lucky if you get much more than a small space with grass on to yourself, especially in cities. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t utilise what you’ve got to the best of your ability, especially with summer just around the corner. Making the most of what space you are able to use is of the utmost importance if you are to enjoy the best of the (arguably limited) great British weather that we are meant to be receiving this year.
Gardens are meant to be decorated. Whether it’s with flowers, shrubs, bunting or ornamentation, there is so much available for you to buy nowadays that is designed to go outside and make things pretty that you’ll be hard pressed not to find something that you like. It’s why garden centres are so big and so popular – people are always willing to spruce up their outdoors in any way they can, and there are always new products on the market for you to do so year on year so that it doesn’t get boring.
Let there be light! One of the most offputting reasons that people don’t utilise their gardens more, especially later into the night during the summer months, is due to the light – or the lack of it as soon as the sun goes down. You don’t have to have anything intrusive out there; fairy lights work brilliantly as little stylish shimmers, and you can get tabletop LED lights for more of a cosy feel. Candles work brilliantly too, just make sure that they’re inside a big vase to prevent having to constantly relight them.
Summer is the perfect time to start taking care of your body, and the garden offers the best place to do it – no mess to clear up afterwards! If you have the funds available you could even get a Compass Pool – plunge pools are the way forward in giving your body a quick cool down and also are great to sit and chill with friends. Make sure that you are making the most of the warm weather by sitting outside with a face mask on and watching the sunset (if possible).
Gardens are a reflection of our house but on the outside. The great thing about them is that, if having a party, it is the perfect place for your guests to go. Any messes can be quickly wiped up without thinking about damage to carpets or furniture, people don’t have to keep nipping outside if they’re smokers and if you have children, it’s the perfect place for them to run around and burn off energy without worrying about them knocking into objects and hurting themselves. You can cook in your garden by means of a barbecue, get warm with a chiminea later on into the evening and even bring furniture outside. It’s like the home away from home … that’s just outside the back door!
