I am very guilty of sitting on the sofa during the day, laptop at the ready, with the full intention of getting lots of work done. The reality is, that I get distracted by the TV, social media or just day dreaming about what else I have to do around the house. Truth is, if you want to be productive, you need an inspiring and creative work area. You don’t need masses of room, perhaps the space under the stairs, the corner of the dinning room, or the spare bedroom if you have one.
A giant corkboard makes a great mood board for current porjects, keep slogans or postcards that inspire you. It saves any damage to your walls, a good tip is to glue a drawing pin to a peg, that way you can attach things to the board without putting a pin hole in it.
Keep a tray on your desk, use it to keep all those little bits close to hand. I like to keep a small vase of fresh flowers, a candle, lip balm, hand cream and some mood lifting room fragrance. I can’t go any where with out my hand cream, especially in this cold weather, keeping these things on your desk just stop further distractions.
Once you have found an area to create an office space, make sure the desk is big enough for your requirements. I only have a small laptop desk but it fits my iMac perfectly, and as it’s in the dinning room, I tend to spread across the dinning table too when I have a lot of work on.
